Propellerhead Reason 5 -Reason 5 is the most recent edition of the music software that propellerhead software has released over the last years. The type of music software has 2 distinctive points. Firstly there is the Reason rack, which can be compared to having virtual rack with virtual instruments within it. And second part is the sequencer of Reason. The sequencer has been raised subsequent to Reason 4 and later on Propellerhead Record. Some of the features from earlier installments have been enhanced and are now available in the current edition of Propellerhead Reason, Reason 5. The Reason 5 devicesNew within Reason 5 are the Dr Octo Rex and Kong. Where the Dr Octro Rex is an enhanced edition of the Dr Rex. It can accommodate 8 distinctive loops and can be sliced differently with the use of the slice edit mode. The biggest difference between good old Dr Rex and Dr OctRex lies in the capability to use 8 loops on the track. And can be manually played one at a time. Second device is Kong in Reason 5. This device is marketed as a drum designer, yet there is more to it than this. It allows the user to assemble analog drums from the bottom up, using drum designers for Hihats, Kickdrums, snare drums and toms. Next to this, Kong introduces the Nano NN-XT player. A mini NN-XT sampler to fill Kong with custom samples. Kong comes with its own distinguished set of routing, masterbus and compressor. Read More >>

This video from Cakewalk display the new features. Read More >>
Albeit Sonar is hugely accepted in the US, it doesn't have quite the same amount of acceptance in Europe, possibly because of its rep for having a rather complex, fiddly interface. From what we've seen of this new edition (and we have actually seen it in operation), the central changes Cakewalk have done to the GUI should make that assessment a thing of the past.
